CASEnergy Co-Chair Dr. Patrick Moore Brings CASEnergy to Michigan

Dr. Patrick Moore and the CASEnergy Coalition were at the Detroit Athletic Club introducing CASEnergy to Michigan’s citizens on November 10th. Dr. Moore stressed nuclear education and discussed Michigan’s current energy mix and the need for more nuclear energy.

Detroit_Moore“Not many people realize there are 15, 20 nuclear plants on the drawing board right now in the United States. We want people to be ready for it, and realize it’s a good thing for the environment and economy,” Moore said during the news briefing at the Detroit Athletic Club.

Moore continued, “If we actually want to level off or even reduce our fossil fuel consumption for electricity production, nuclear energy and renewables combined in an aggressive program, is the only way to do that.”

During Dr. Patrick Moore’s visit to Detroit to introduce the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition, Dr. Moore spoke with Crain’s Detroit Business and discussed how nuclear power needs to be an important part of a diversified strategy to meet increasing energy demand. Local CASEnergy Members Support Dr. Moore in Bringing the Nuclear Energy Message to Michigan

Joining Dr. Moore in Michigan to support nuclear energy and CASEnergy were State Senator Buzz Thomas, Melissa Trustman with the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, and James Beaubien, President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 17 in Michigan.

Each has their own view on why they joined CASEnergy and why nuclear energy is so important to Michigan’s future:

Detroit_B_ThomasI’m proud to be here today as a member of the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition to welcome our Co-Chair Dr. Patrick Moore and help him bring the principles that CASEnergy is founded upon to Michigan. I want to thank Dr. Moore for bringing his perspective on nuclear energy here to Michigan because I think it is an important one and one that this state can learn from and use to help shape effective energy policies in the coming years. I joined CASEnergy soon after the national launch of the Coalition back in April in Washington, DC. I joined because I believe in the Coalition’s mission and I think it is important that Michigan and our nation address what is going to happen as our electricity demand rises. —State Senator Buzz Thomas

With Michigan and this county’s electricity needs continuing to rise, we need continued electricity growth here and across the US. Because a strong US economy helps to ensure a strong Michigan economy. Nuclear energy is one of the ways we can meet our energy challenges. —Melissa Trustman, Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce

The IBEW is a strong supporter of nuclear energy development and use in the United States and in Michigan. We actively support and participate in all aspects of nuclear energy. From research and training to safety and rulemaking. We can no longer afford to ignore nuclear energy. It is a clean, safe and reliable solution for our increasing energy demands here in Michigan and across the United States. We look forward to working with CASEnergy to bring this message to Michigan and we are proud to be a part of such an important cause. —James Beaubien, President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 17
