CASEnergy Coalition Passes 1,000 Members
WASHINGTON, DC, May 23, 2007 – Today, Clean and Safe Energy Coalition Co-Chairs Christine Todd Whitman and Dr. Patrick Moore announced that the coalition has passed the 1,000 member mark.
Since its inception in April 2006, CASEnergy has attracted a diverse membership of consumers, conservationists, academics, health care advocates, labor organizations, environmentalists, and state and community leaders in support of the role clean and safe nuclear energy can play in addressing our nation’s current and future energy needs.
The last few weeks alone have shown the broad range of support for nuclear energy with new members ranging from former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar and the International Union of Operating Engineers to the Florida Medical Association and Iowa State Senator Staci Appel.
“Our members joined the coalition to promote nuclear as a clean and safe energy source that can meet our nation’s growing energy needs – an estimated 45% increase in electricity demand by 2030. They are more than just concerned individuals, Republicans, Democrats or Independents; they are elected officials, environmentalists and business leaders who share a common goal, which is to encourage energy policy debate and to spread awareness of the benefits of nuclear energy,” said Dr. Moore.
CASEnergy is proud of the diversity of its membership. Other recent members of the coalition include:
“We are energized by the new and varied members that are joining every day. It gives us great hope that people are approaching the problems of growing electricity demand, climate change and air quality with an open mind, recognizing that nuclear energy is both economically and environmentally necessary as part of our energy portfolio. We have events planned throughout the country, as we look forward to growing our coalition and pushing for a renewed focus on clean and safe nuclear energy,” said Christie Whitman.
