Dr. Moore addresses crowd at Consumer Energy Alliance Luncheon during May Trip to Washington

CASEnergy co-chair and co-founder of Greenpeace Dr. Patrick Moore visited Washington, D.C. in May to speak with influencer groups, media, and others about the benefits of further developing emission-free nuclear power in the U.S.

Dr. Moore attended and spoke at a luncheon held by the Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA) on Wednesday, May 13. At the luncheon, Dr. Moore highlighted that nuclear energy generates more than 70 percent of all carbon-free electricity in America today and that it has the potential to create as many as 12,000 to 21,000 new high-paying jobs if the more than 30 new reactors under consideration in the U.S. are built. The meeting was well attended, with an audience that included U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (D-AK) and three members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Following the luncheon, CASEnergy welcomed CEA President David Holt as a member.

Dr. Moore also discussed the benefits of nuclear generation and job creation with top-tier national media outlets, as well as several state, local and trade publications. Dr. Moore spoke with John Carey, a BusinessWeek Senior Correspondent, about the importance of further investment in nuclear power—particularly that new nuclear can create thousands of high-paying jobs throughout the country.  Other media interviews included Wyatt Andrews of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, and Paul Merrion of Crain’s Chicago Business News.

In addition, Dr. Moore met with leaders from several influential African-American organizations to discuss the opportunities for African-Americans in the nuclear industry. He sat down with representatives from the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, Congressional Black Caucus, American Association of Blacks in Energy, the Black Leadership Forum, and the Greater Washington Urban League.
