Maudine R. Cooper took the helm of the Greater Washington Urban League as President and CEO in December 1990. A 70-year-old nonprofit, community service and civil rights organization, the League is one of more than 100 affiliates of the National Urban League and a member of the United Way of the National Capital Area. The League provides direct services in four key areas: education, employment and training, aging and health services, and housing and community development.
Throughout her career, her diligent efforts have helped thousands of minorities advance in employment, education, and business ownership in the metropolitan area. A tireless civic activist, Ms. Cooper is also a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
