On November 15, CASEnergy co-chair Gov. Christine Todd Whitman traveled to Chicago to address the Illinois Chamber of Commerce’s Energy Council Forum. While in Chicago, she also met with key local individuals and organizations and conducted media interviews.
Prior to addressing the Chamber, Gov. Whitman taped an interview for the “Noon Business Hour,” a weekday radio program covering national and regional business news that airs on WBBM-AM, the CBS Radio Chicago affiliate and #1 most listened to station in the city. She spoke about her role with CASEnergy and discussed the economic and environmental benefits of nuclear power in Illinois – a state which operates more reactors than any other state in the U.S.
Next, Gov. Whitman delivered a keynote at the Illinois Chamber of Commerce’s Energy Council Forum to address what Illinois Governor Pat Quinn should consider with regard to clean energy policy in the state, highlighting the relevant points of the Coalition’s Policy Roadmap for Clean Energy. Approximately 150 Illinois business leaders attended the forum, including representatives from Gov. Quinn’s office and the Clean Energy Trust, among others.
After her speech, Gov. Whitman sat down with a reporter from the Chicago Tribune to discuss the CASEnergy Policy Roadmap as it pertains to Illinois, and made a case for lifting the state’s 23-year moratorium on new nuclear plants, including the great job creation potential of nuclear expansion.
