On Feb. 22-23, CASEnergy Co-Chair Dr. Patrick Moore traveled to Columbus, Ohio to deliver speeches at the 15th Annual Ohio Energy Management Conference and Ohio State University and meet with key local individuals and organizations to discuss the benefits of nuclear power in the region.
Dr. Moore began the day on Feb. 22 by addressing an audience of 400-500 at the Ohio Energy Management Conference, where he outlined the four points of the Coalition’s Policy Roadmap for Clean Energy and discussed nuclear’s important role in a responsible energy portfolio.
Later in the day, Dr. Moore met with the leadership of the Ohio Manufacturers Association (OMA), a public policy organization which represents more than 1,500 manufacturing companies statewide. As a result of the meeting, the OMA has agreed to join the Coalition and is interested in engaging CASEnergy for future events.
On Feb. 23, Dr. Moore enjoyed a site tour of the innovative facilities at Battelle’s Memorial Institute, a charitable trust headquartered in Columbus committed to using science and technology as a positive force for change.
He then gave a speech to about 300 students and faculty at Ohio State University, where he particularly enjoyed the robust Q&A session. Following the larger session with students, OSU hosted a faculty reception for Dr. Moore, who addressed the group for about 35 minutes. Dr. Moore also spoke with Dr. Thomas Blue, the Director of the Nuclear Reactor Laboratory at Ohio State University.
After his speech, Dr. Moore sat down with a reporter from the university’s student paper, The Lantern. In the 10-minute interview, Dr. Moore spoke about the Coalition, the future of nuclear power in the U.S. and his journey from Greenpeace co-founder to nuclear advocate.
