On Friday, July 12, CASEnergy Coalition Co-Chair Christine Todd Whitman discussed job opportunities in nuclear energy at a panel discussion at the Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute Policy Conference in Tunica, Miss.
On the panel, titled “Energy: Choices for America’s Future,” Gov. Whitman discussed a variety of issues and their impact on minority communities, including scholarship opportunities and long-term, high-paying jobs in the nuclear industry. She also addressed the steps the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has taken to implement lessons learned at U.S. reactors following the accident at Fukushima Daiichi to ensure nuclear energy continues to play a big part in our country’s clean energy portfolio.
Gov. Whitman joined several energy and policy leaders on the panel including Napoleon Johnson of Entergy, Lonnie Johnson of Exxon Mobile, Rep. Sanford Bishop, Rep. Donna Christian Christianson, David Owens of the Edison Institute and Eugene Trisco, an environmental attorney.
