CASEnergy Launch in South Carolina
CASEnergy Co-Chair Christine Todd Whitman traveled to South Carolina to launch the CASEnergy Coalition on November 19th and 20th.
Co-Chair Whitman’s first stop in South Carolina was a speaking engagement at the University of South Carolina, School of Environment. There she addressed the important role that nuclear energy plays in South Carolina.
“It may surprise some of you but 20 percent of America’s electricity today — one out of five homes and businesses — is generated by nuclear power. In your state, seven nuclear power plants supply South Carolinians with 51.1 percent of their electricity, more than any other energy source. And South Carolina is proving to be an example of nuclear energy success to the rest of the country. This state is proving that it can and should be done.”
Following the speech, CASEnergy held a reception for current and prospective members who are active in their communities and interested in the issues of clean and safe energy.
On November 20th, Whitman traveled to Clemson, South Carolina to addressed students and faculty at the Strom Thurmond Institute of Government & Public Affairs at Clemson University. She stressed nuclear education and discussed South Carolina’s current energy demands and the need for more nuclear energy. Additionally, Governor Whitman applauded Clemson University’s efforts to create a sustainable and environmentally responsible campus.
“I was excited to see the Clemson University Environmental Committee formed in 2002 and was then pleased to read that the Clemson community is taking a good look at itself with last year’s Environmental Audit. That is a commendable project that will serve as an important first step toward becoming a truly sustainable University.”
During co-chair Whitman’s trip, she spoke to various media outlets including: WVOC, WYFF News 4, EQUITIES Magazine, and the Greenville News editorial board.
